Synapsed in Time
A legend reveals itself – discovery walk in Sooß NÖ
Legend has it that an underground retreat tunel links an old Defence fortress of Sichtenberg to the main Castle and palace in Sooß NÖ. Like the grail castle Corbenic (Carbonek, Carboneck, Corbin) Chastiaus del Cor Beneit - the Castle of the Blessed Horn which only reveals itself to those pure of heart ,the actual ruin Sichtenberg is hidden in forrest, fleeting traces appearing as one seeks what is lost to time.
Taking the picture of a Nerve Synapse as Metaphore for all things imaginatively connected, the Project starts with the central Sculpture ‚Synapse-Skull of dead thoughts’2016-2019, People may enter and stand under the dome of the wierd organic skull, pick up and browse through decaying books of long forgotten authors and tomes of Natural science. There are two windows or portals: one looking towards the ‚schloss’ the other towards the ruin. Here, like Parzival, one seeks the way to the castle......
In the Lawns and gardens of the Schloss( Chateaux- Palace) stands an Arch festooned with creepers it opens out onto the Herb garden In this context Symbolic of healing and vitality. In the other direction the seeker walks, lost, in search of the ‚Grail’, the Ruin. Here and there he or she might find ‚traces’; sculptures bound to the earth or to branches temporary, fragile... but where is the Castle? Eventually one comes across a sign. „Entry to the Castle is forbidden“.
This is an interactive walking-seeking path, where people can experience for example: their own ideas of the history and the development of the network of medieval sites . ( Sooß , Sichtenberg and Schalleburg were as communities in society, business supply and consume , defence and governance, interconnected)
Above all is that in this Seekers way; like in Parzival or in Andre Tarkovsky’s film the Stalker, the way to the room is as important as being in the Room itself.
